TSW enter Challenge Series.

December 2015

Volleyball England have launched the Volleyball England challenge series, which sees the England Junior National Teams (Men and Women) take on Super 8s Teams, hosted during National Squad weekends at Kettering from September to April during the 2016-17 season. Of course, Team South Wales was delighted to support this development project and has entered the Series.

The game played on the 28th November 2015 provided the Team to also offer a great experience to some of our own Junior players Tahlia Taylor and Katie Francis. As reported on the South Wales Echo (9/12/2015), "the TSW squad, with Taylor and Francis both playing the vast majority of the match, started with a dominant display in the first set that saw England struggle to get even a foothhold" and proved too strong to the England juniors beating them 3-1. The series  is a great Volleyball England initiative which TSW is very happy to be part of.

TSW Season preparation in full steam.

September 2015

The adult and the junior squads have now started their 2015/2016  seasons. Both teams have been working hard preparing for the respective competitions: NVL Super 8's and Welsh League. The juniors started on the 11th October and the adult on the 3rd October. Go Team!

TSW Juniors perform in Europe.

May 2014

TSW is very proud of our four junior players that have represented Wales in the European Championships: Atlanta Taylor, Ffion Stallworthy, Molly Barnard and Tahlia Taylor. This was the first time that Wales participated in the European Championships (Small Countries Division), being included in the final rounds of the competition. The U19 Girls team traveled to San Marino to face the hosts, Scotland, Luxembourg and Lichtenstein. The team was headed by Coach Sandra Stoll, assistant coach Jack Allman and Team Manager Kath Lewis. Our juniors players have been working very hard and we were all delighted to see them taking part in this European journey.

Adult's squad coach Jose Castro and Juniors assistant coach Charlotte James, also embarked in an European quest by heading the U20 Boys Welsh Squad, who played the Championships in Luxembourg.

Please read more about our girls in the European Championships here and here.

More exciting journeys face our Junior squad players as the preparation for the 2014 Sainsbury's School Games will start soon. These will the players who will be eligible for the 2016 European Championships, so we are very excited both as a club and a Nation to be working towards that.

Charlotte James is a Super 8s All star.

May 2014

From all over the UK and rest of the world, volleyball enthusiastics have votes for their favourite players in the Super 8s nation league division. These players will meet in a All-stars game, where international players will go against a British squad. Not suprisingly Charlotte has been nominated and voted to take part on this. TSW will then be very well represented in this game. Please see more about the All-stars game here.

Coach José Castro receives VE Annual Award.

April 2014

The adult's squad head coach José Castro was named this season's Performance Development Coach of the Year. This is the result of 3 years of very hard work and commitment that have culminated in the team being promoted to higher divisions every year. Everyone in the team is very proud. Congratulations coach!

Coach José Castro talks about the camp in Porto.

September 2013

The Super 8 team has now returned from their camp in Porto, Portugal. It included a series of training sessions and a friendly game in order to get us ready for the fast-approaching season! Here's what coach José Castro had to say about it:

"This year's camp went particularly well. Whilst only 9 players were able to attend last year, this time we had 12 players (the vast majority of the team) training hard for a whole week in Porto. This allowed us to start working on the much needed technical/tactical/physical aspects in order to get ready for the season. We also had the privilege to play a friendly match against one of the strongest teams in Portugal. As any camp (but particularly one abroad), a strong social aspect was embedded to it. In that sense, the camp allowed us to develop (an even) stronger bound between the players. Additionally, we experienced some of the wonderful sights and food that Porto has to offer (I'm not biased at all!)."

Without our Portuguese friends, this camp could not have taken place. In particular, we would like to thank Colégio Paulo VI in Gondomar. We used their facilities to practice everyday and could not be happier. Learn more about them here.

Additionally, we would like to express our gratitude to TSW's Portuguese family!

TSW mentionned in recent interview with chair of Volleyball Wales.

July 2013

Yvonne Saker, the chair of Volleyball Wales, has recently provided a background and review on Volleyball's current development in Wales. Whilst refering to adult teams, Yvonne mentionned Team South Wales: "They’re performing really, really well. It will be interesting to see how well they get on this year… They had to start from the bottom league and they’ve just been phenomenal all the way through.". Thanks Yvonne!

South West Championships.

May 2013

Team South Wales were runners-up of the South West Championships - an end of the season tournament organised by the South West Volleyball Association, in Plymouth. TSW was beaten by Devon 2-1 in the final (25-18, 24-26, 15-10). Click here to see some action pictures (and Esme and Atlanta multitasking...).

Team South Wales Division 1 Winners.

April 2013

Team South Wales finished the season win a 3-2 victory against Devon, in a very exciting game. We then became NVL's Division 1 Winners and have been promoted to Super 8s - the highest NVL division. This is an unprecedented achievement for Volleyball in Wales and the team couldn't be prouder or happier!
This could not have been possible without the support of your great sponsor CM Utilities. Thank you!

Charlotte James voted one of Div. 1 most valuable players.

April 2013

Congratulations to our very own Charlotte James. Charlotte was voted by our opponents as one of the most valuable players (MVP) of the NV League - Division 1. Check Volleyball England's MVP players list here.

Team South Wales promoted to Super 8s.

 April 2013

After a well disputed game and despite a loss against Loughborough Dolphins, Team South Wales has secured enough points to become NVL div 1 Winners and be promoted to super 8s. This is the highest division in National Volleyball League. This is also the first time that a Welsh team (male or female) has achieve this level of competition.

Esme and Atlanta in GB development squads.

Team South Wales is very proud to announce that our two youngest players in the team, Atlanta Taylor and Esme Newman, have been included in the GB development squads. They both have been called to integrate training camps with the England Junior Women's squads. Atlanta, as a Welsh national squad player, cannot enter a competition with the English squad, so she will have to wait for the opportunity to play for GB. Esme, on the other hand, was part of the England squad that entered the London's World Youth Games in April this year. Congratulations to both. The future is bright for our Juniors!
